It Couldn’t Be Done

Somebody said that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it;”
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat
And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure,
There are thousands to point out to you one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing
That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it.

Active Faith

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

TD Jakes quoted, “I can tell what you’re waiting on by what you’re working on. The waiting mentioned in the verse above is active not passive. It is referring to what you are believing God for? In most cases we accept the reality that we have been given and refuse to even act on the dreams and ideas God has placed inside of us. Day after day we stay in our comfort zones wishing for things to change, but not actually believing they will. We want the boat to move but we are too afraid to stick an oar in the water, to set our course and begin our journey. The journey of a million miles begins with the first step, but if we never develop the courage to start we’ll never finish the race. This life is a gift from God. What we make of it is our gift back to Him. Paul stated in Galatians, that he had run his course. Not anyone else’s course, but the one the Lord had set before him. The choice is yours, choose life. Start where you are with what you have and dare to be an element of change. Build the life of love, service, and generosity that God has planned and purposed for you. Trust and believe that whatever desire God has placed in your heart He will equip you with the tools to see it through to completeion1

God Will Save Me

A terrible storm came into a town and local officials sent out an emergency warning that the riverbanks would soon overflow and flood the nearby homes. They ordered everyone in the town to evacuate immediately.
A faithful Christian man heard the warning and decided to stay, saying to himself, “I will trust God and if I am in danger, then God will send a divine miracle to save me.”
The neighbors came by his house and said to him, “We’re leaving and there is room for you in our car, please come with us!” But the man declined. “I have faith that God will save me.”
As the man stood on his porch watching the water rise up the steps, a man in a canoe paddled by and called to him, “Hurry and come into my canoe, the waters are rising quickly!” But the man again said, “No thanks, God will save me.”
The floodwaters rose higher pouring water into his living room and the man had to retreat to the second floor. A police motorboat came by and saw him at the window. “We will come up and rescue you!” they shouted. But the man refused, waving them off saying, “Use your time to save someone else! I have faith that God will save me!”
The flood waters rose higher and higher and the man had to climb up to his rooftop.
A helicopter spotted him and dropped a rope ladder. A rescue officer came down the ladder and pleaded with the man, “Grab my hand and I will pull you up!” But the man STILL refused, folding his arms tightly to his body. “No thank you! God will save me!”
Shortly after, the house broke up and the floodwaters swept the man away and he drowned.
When in Heaven, the man stood before God and asked, “I put all of my faith in You. Why didn’t You come and save me?”
And God said, “Son, I sent you a warning. I sent you a car. I sent you a canoe. I sent you a motorboat. I sent you a helicopter. What more were you looking for?”

Legacy of Faith

On July 19th, 2015 the pastor of the Vineyard Columbus Sawmill campus, asked a very perplexing question during his Sunday morning sermon entitled A Simple Faith that Soars. The question was, “What are you going to be remembered for?”
Will it be the long hours you put in on the job? The number of friends you amassed? The number of vacations you took? The amount of earthly possessions you were able to accumulate? The money, cars, houses, clothes, fame, fortune? All the things we feverishly work to obtain that will soon pass away and turn to dust.
As I pondered this question over the next few weeks, the honest answer that I arrived at was that I had absolutely no clue. As this very profound message continued to resonate in my spirit I was forced to deal with the reality that I haven’t always done what is right by my children and although I’ve tried my best to be a good father I know that I have failed my children in the area of life that matters the most.
In light of this revelation I revisited pastor’s outline from the sermon to find the answer to this profound question. Lo and behold I found the answer was planted right in the midst of his message. The correct answer is leaving a Legacy of Faith that changes your family lineage
In my quest to give my children everything I never had. I forgot to give them the most important thing. The one thing that matters the most. A father that was present in their lives to set a godly example and to help guide them through the challenges of life.
My selfish actions have caused them so much hurt and pain. I have come to the realization that all though I can’t undo the pass I still face the monumental task of leaving them with a legacy of faith. One that outlives me and that can be passed down from generation to generation to come.
I can ill afford to be upset over time passed and opportunities lost. There is no time to waste. The life of my children and their children’s children is at stake. The fact that I’m still here lets me know me know that God has a plan and purpose for my life. It may not be what I envisioned it to be, but I trust that it is exactly what He has planned and purposed for me.
For my older children, I know that the seeds of righteousness have been planted in your spirits by myself and your mothers. It is my hope that others that you encounter throughout the course of your lives will water that seed and that in the end God will get the increase.
For my younger children, I vow to live as godly as I can in a way that inspires you to foster a real relationship with Christ and follow Him all the days of your life while passing the legacy of faith on to your children in the process.
Love Always,
Dad
